How do blackheads manifest?

Blackheads basically form when a pores are clogged or plugged. Dead skins cells, sweat or impurities collect at the opening of the pore and cause them to get clogged which then produces a dirty bump aka blackhead.

Natural remedies to get rid of blackheads

1. Baking Soda Mask or Paste

Simply mix one part baking soda and fresh filtered water to form a paste. Apply gently to the affected area, then allow it to dry for a few minutes and simply rinse it off with warm water to remove the oil and dirt from your pores. Make sure not to over do it either as the baking soda pH is high and can seriously dry out your skin so don’t forget to moisturize after!

2. Egg White Mask

Egg white removes current blackheads, tightens your pores which prevents future blackheads to form as well.

Ingredients:
– 1 egg
– Small bowl
– Clean towel
– Tissue

Simply separate the egg yolk from the egg white and keep the latter. Clean your face and then pat dry. Apply a layer of egg white to your skin, wait until it’s completely dry and then apply another layer. Repeat 4-5 times. Let it dry completely then rinse with warm water.

3. Honey & Cinnamon Pads (smells divine!)

Ingredients:
– Clean cotton pads
– 1 part organic raw honey
– 1 part cinnamon
– Small bowl

Mix the honey and cinnamon in a small bowl until it’s enough to cover the affected area. Apply a thin layer onto affected area then press a clean cotton pad over it. Wait for 4-5 minutes then remove slowly and rinse your face. Follow up with a mild unscented moisturizer (best if it’s chemical free so it doesn’t irritate your skin).

What you will need:
• Mason jar
• Measuring spoons
• Cotton pads
• Filtered water

• Essential oil of your choice (I chose Lavender for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It’s also a very gentle essential oil and if perfect to relax to when applied to the skin.)
• Carrier oil of your choice (I like to use V-6 or sweet almond oil because it doesn’t clog pores and leaves your skin feeling healthy and supple. You can check out the 5 benefits of Sweet Almond Oil here. Other carrier oils you can opt for include but are not limited to coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, avocado seed oil and more.)

Once you have all your ingredients ready follow the steps below:
1. Pour 2 tablespoons of your choice of carrier oil into the mason jar
2. Pour 1 tablespoon of Witch Hazel
3. Pour 2 tablespoons of filtered water
4. Add 4 drops of your choice of essential oil (I chose Lavender)
5. Place the cotton pads into the mason jar
6. Close the cap and swirl the jar until all the cotton pads are evenly soaked

How Essential Oils Can Improve Your Life

I recently wrote an article for Hong Kong’s Indian Lifestyle Portal, HKYantoYan about How Essential Oils and benefit your every day life, and wanted to share it with you!

We all know that Hong Kong is a fast paced concrete jungle. We are often overworked or stressed out with different responsibilities and pressure from our daily lives. How can we help our mind and bodies relax and regain a healthy balance? Essential oils may be the key to a healthier lifestyle.

Essential oils date back to ancient times when people used them for religious purposes and for healing the sick. It was used for cosmetic purposes, used spiritually or for its emotionally uplifting properties.

Essential oils can be used in three different ways. Essential oils can be inhaled or diffused, applied onto the body or ingested. I normally don’t recommend ingestion unless you have done a meticulous amount of research about how it’s distilled, handled and bottled. We can benefit from essential oils in bountiful ways. It can be used to promote a healthier lifestyle, strengthen the immune system and maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Since Summer is quickly approaching I thought I’d share some unique blends with you all to try in your diffusers!

5 Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil

Benefits-Of-Almond-Oil-For-Skin.jpg

I have a wide variety of base oils that I use on a daily basis, such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil or even hemp seed oil but my all time favourite has to be Sweet Almond Oil. In this post, I’m going to share with you the 5 Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil.

Muscle Relaxation

Sweet almond oil is packed with Vitamin E. This protein-rich oil is perfect for massaging aching muscles after a long day or a session at the gym. For optimal rejuvenation, add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil to give it an extra kick. I suggest trying Lavender, PanAway or Peace & Calming. After your massage use a thick hot towel and cover over the massaged area. Leave it on until the towel cools down. By doing this you relieve the muscle tension and extract toxins at the same time.

Flawless & Smooth Skin

Sweet almond oil is a mild hypoallergenic oil – which means it’s suitable and safe to be used on babies as well. This highly potent antioxidant oil is incomparable to other oils. Daily application of this oil can protect your skin and keeps it soft and supple. I like to add a drop of Gernanium (promotes a healthy skin integumentary system and uplifts the spirit), Frankincense (supports the skin and promotes cell regenration and is known as the King of Oils) or Lavender (calms the skin) into my sweet almond oil face regimen.

Healthy Nails

If you have beaten up nails like myself then you should try using a few drops of sweet almond oil on your nails daily. This oil has zinc and potassium properties that help strengthen and moisturize your nails leaving them stronger and less prone to breaking.

Or you can try my Nail Growth Stimulating Blend: Simply mix 3 drops of Geranium, 3 drops of Lavender, 2 drops of Lemon, top off with Sweet Almond Oil. Mix well in a Roller Ball Bottle and apply onto cuticles daily.

Natural Make Up Remover

Sweet Almond Oil is lighter than most oils and it penetrates deeply into the skin which allows it to alleviate makeup or dirt thats pikled up in the pores. The oil has a strong Vitamin A component which reduces acne, blackheads and dirt build up.

Simply soak a cotton pad or cotton ball in the oil and gently remove your make up. This oil is so gentle that you can easily use on delicate areas such as around your eyes. I like to add a drop of Lavender essential oil into my make up remover for its fragrant and soothing properties.
